Belén del Museo de San Isidro
Set in the circular fountain of the Museum's Renaissance courtyard, with scenes such as the Annunciation to the shepherds, the Flight from Egypt, the Adoration of the Kings and, of course, the Nativity, this traditional Madrid nativity scene invites all residents and visitors to celebrate Christmas by visiting a building that preserves important pieces of our city's history.
The figures are in the Hebrew style, in keeping with the traditional interpretation of the images and costumes of the time of Jesus by 19th-century artisans, many of them unique pieces sculpted by the artisan. They all belong to the collection of the famous master nativity scene maker José Luis Mayo and are remarkable for their exquisite modelling and polychromy. The care and detail with which the landscapes have been recreated is also noteworthy - there is even a river with flowing water that follows a circular path through the tableau.
