Christmas lights once again brighten up the streets of Madrid with new attractions this year such as the angel of Madrid in Plaza de Colón, the new lighting of the Christmas trees at Puerta del Sol and Plaza de la Ópera, the great star in Calle Cea Bermúdez and a newly designed nativity scene at the Puerta de Alcalá. Calle Serrano and Calle Fuencarral will also be bedecked with new lights. All told, Christmas lights will brighten up more than 230 different sites in the city’s 21 districts. In total, some 12 million bulbs will make sure that Madrid shines more than ever before!

*On Thursday 28 November, the lights will be switched on, but there is no set time for this. The lighting inauguration event starts at 7pm, so at least we can be sure that the lights won’t be turned on before then. We do know that they will stay on until 1am that night.
