More than fifty animal and human figures depicting scenes from the Nativity of Jesus and the trades, customs and habits of 18th century Naples. Many of the figures are articulated and dressed in colourful costumes with detailed equipment and accessories. They are made with a wire frame covered with burlap to which the limbs and head, carved in wood or terracotta, are attached.

A host of little angels descend on the classical ruins where the Mystery takes place. The rest of the scenario is occupied by peasants, the well-to-do, shepherds, peddlers, musicians and the luxurious representatives of the oriental court who make up the retinue of the Three Kings. This then is the Neapolitan Nativity Scene of the Madrid History Museum; an excellent example, replete with delicate pieces mostly made by anonymous artisans and artists from the Italian city and brought to Spain and made popular by King Charles III.
