Artistic creation workshops

The tradition of the Advent wreath comes from northern Germany and dates back to the 19th century. The Protestant theologian Johann Hinrich Wichern, director of an orphanage in Hamburg, introduced it with the idea that counting off the 24 candles would make the wait until Christmas Eve more bearable for the children. In this workshop, children can create and decorate their own Advent wreath and, in the process, learn the meaning of lighting a candle on every Sunday during Advent. The materials used offer a vivid sensory experience, through the smells, textures and shapes of elements such as pine branches, pine cones, leaves and wool.
