Trevor Paglen’s current research focuses on artificial intelligence and artificial vision, i.e., how computers and other technological devices can “see” and use visual data. Behold These Glorious Times! brings together hundreds of thousands of images and displays them on screen at breakneck, hypnotic speed over the course of twelve minutes. This process, which alternates between the mind-numbing and the mesmerising, is accompanied by an operatic soundtrack (composed by the artist Holly Herndon) that is itself the product of algorithms: the sounds are taken from an auditory training library that will teach the machines to recognise human speech.

Immerse yourself in the city that was the symbol of the rising power of the Roman Empire. Explore the city and experience first-hand the tragic end that the fury of Vesuvius unleashed upon it.
A carefully selected collection of archaeological artefacts will take you back to that moment in the autumn of 79 A.D. when time stood still at the foot of Vesuvius. Enjoy an extraordinary virtual adventure, stroll through the Villa of the Mysteries, interact with its treasures, its paintings, the water in its atrium and the cool breeze in the house's peristyle. You’ll also find yourself caught up in a fight between gladiators and a horde of wild beasts!

Periphery of the Night is an exhibition by the Thai artist and film-maker Apichatpong Weerasethakul, whose thirteen audiovisual works, divided into six areas, create a unique atmosphere in which to immerse oneself and travel to the universe from which all his films emanate.
This exhibition at Matadero Madrid sheds light on the more artistic side of this artist, whose career has mainly revolved around the medium of film. Periphery of the Night includes works that take Weerasethakul's imaginary beyond cinema theatres to form an expressive and conceptual whole, in an installation whose projection device contaminates and allows itself to be contaminated by the space and the audience.
Exhibition organised by Matadero Madrid and produced by the Institut d'art contemporain Villeurbanne/Rhône-Alpes (IAC) in collaboration with Fabra i Coats: Centre d’ Art Contemporani de Barcelona.

CLIMATE FITNESS Rituals of adaptability

An exhibition, a gym, a performance art piece, a device and a programme of public activities.
In the context of the climate crisis, the human species is having to resort to adaptive practices that imply a radical reconfiguration of the body and everyday life Used in biology to describe a species' capacity to adjust to climate change, the term climate fitness is being appropriated by popular culture to refer to the physical and mental preparation needed to face the possible catastrophic consequences of environmental collapse. This is the case put forward in the essay Planet Fitness, written by Common Accounts (Igor Bragado and Miles Gertler).
From cosmetics that seek to protect the skin from the effects of pollution, to communities of survivors undergoing training to withstand the potential collapse of society, to diets that enhance individual and planetary health, new forms of adaptability are being explored that imply a profound redefinition of the relationship between the body and its environment.
But as adaptability is not just an individual practice, but rather a tool with which to question the social and economic structures that have led us to the climate crisis in the first place, this redefinition of adaptability cannot occur in a political and social vacuum.
